A documentary showing the project centred on the reinterpretation of Michelangelo’s Last Judgement, the culminating point of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, through the visual language that has made Pombo internationally recognised: the “blurring” technique. The painting is presented as a living, changing surface, which recomposes and disintegrates under the viewer’s gaze. A visual device that, whilst maintaining its link with the Renaissance tradition, opens up to contemporary suggestions. The influence of Action Painting also emerges, lending the work a gestural rhythm and a physical tension that dialogue with the immobility of the classical pictorial tradition.
